Art-science Commission 2018 for Brain (a peer-reviewed journal of Neurology), acrylic on canvas

The painting is inspired by two neurology research images and the research analysis technique. The graphic consists of a painting of a textured painting combining two merged images, a 3D brain scan (T1-weighted magnetic resonance brain imaging scans) that has been analysed using computer programming (spatiotemporal pattern of GM atrophy) and a graph of the outcomes of the data analysis. On the image of the painting I auto-generated similar vibrant colours to the original computer programme which automatically mapped the colours on to the brain regions. Finally, I added an additional overlay of a graph of disease progression that the brain image is a part of, along with other images. This graph is also represented in the background of the painting. The painting was commissioned for a leading Neurology peer-reviewed journal, Brain.
